Questions
Questions about bathroom visits and installs
How do I know a plumber is licensed?
Ask for the number before anyone comes in, and check it on the state's page where there is one. The registration and insurance we carry are on our About page.
What does a visit cost and include?
We tell you the visit fee on the phone, before you book. At the visit we watch, measure and talk, and we open nothing. If you hire us for the work in the plan, the fee comes off the total.
Will I get the price before you start?
Yes, in writing. The plan states the price, the days and what the price leaves out. You can take it to your family or your therapist and say no.
How long does an install take?
Most small jobs, like a toilet and a bar, finish in one day. A walk-in shower or a tub conversion takes longer, and the plan says how many days.
What does a grab-bar install include?
Opening the wall, fastening solid blocking between the studs, closing the wall, setting the bar at the height and angle in the plan and checking it by hand. Tile touch-up and paint are listed on the plan if you need them.
Do you work with my therapist?
Yes. Give us your therapist's name, with your permission, and we send the plan to them. If you don't have one, Moira Farrell, our partner, can join the visit.
Can I pick the fixtures?
Yes. We show you what fits the room and the person using it. If you've already bought a toilet or a faucet, tell us, and we'll check it fits.
Do you do emergencies?
No. We are a planned-work firm and answer on weekdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For a leak that is running now, shut off the main valve and call an emergency plumber near you.
Will insurance or Medicare pay?
Rules differ by plan and program, and they change. We can't say what yours covers. We give you an itemized plan to send to them, and we don't bill them.
Do you pull permits?
Some jobs need a permit and some don't. The plan says which, and shows the permit fee on its own line.
What if the wall has a problem behind it?
Older houses sometimes have rot or old pipe behind a tub wall. If we find it, we stop, show you, and write down the change and its price before we go on.
Is my house at risk for lead pipes or old galvanized pipe?
Houses built before 1986 may have lead solder or older pipe somewhere in the system. If a job exposes old pipe, we tell you what it is. The EPA has a page on lead in drinking water, and your water company can say what is under the street.
What areas do you serve, and what are your hours?
Lackawanna County and the edge of the Wyoming Valley. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday by appointment. The list of towns is on the home page.
What do you not do?
We don't widen doorways, change floors or do electrical work. If one of those is the real problem, we tell you and help you find someone who does it.
